Hello, my name is Haben Debessai. I am a recent graduate of the University of Michigan and I majored in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience with a minor in Gender and Health. As you can probably guess from my academic interests, I am a pre-med student, with a focus in health disparities afflicting women and ethnic minorities. I aspire to become a practicing physician with a dual degree in Public Health (MD/MPH).
In my four years as a part of the University, I have enjoyed becoming a part of many various student organizations. A few are, GlobeMed (what's brought me to you all!), MOCS (volunteer service organization interested in mental health and disorders), and the University of Michigan Women's Glee Club. I also enjoy participating in research at the University as well as working with children battling cancer at Mott Children's Hospital on campus. All of these experiences have helped shaped me as a citizen of the globe.
In my free time, I enjoy watching movies (mainly Victorian-era, Jane Austen type ones) and reading novels (mainly Victorian-era, Jane Austen type ones as well), and running. Of course, I also greatly enjoy spending time with my family and friends whenever possible.
Some random facts/interests of mine: I've been to Norway four times (my mother's family lives there), I have over 30 first cousins, I am OBSESSED with pumpkin flavoring (in coffee, pies, ice cream, etc.), and my favorite food is sushi!
I cannot wait to get to know you all and see you in June!
